Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup T20 Live: Underdogs against the Defending Champions

The Asia Cup T20 is being played in the T20 format for the very first time, the four participating Asian teams will be competing against each other and team UAE who has gained the qualifier spot after achieving three storming victories. The fifth game to be played will be a Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka match on 28th February, these teams are pretty mature in terms of international cricket exposure. Both of them have had played against each other on several occasions in the past, and Sri Lanka has emerged victorious on all occasions in formats including test, ODI and even T20 matches.

Bangladesh has had some tough times when it comes to cricket, they hold a record for the most test matches consecutive lost and they haven’t had much luck in ODIs either. After a single win in the 1999 world cup against Pakistan they did not win any other ODI matches till 2004, this victory was against Zimbabwe. Then in 2005 for the first time the won a test series, later they secured two more test victories on their West Indies tour. They have been improving gradually and have manged to secure draws with a few strong teams recently but the level of competition has been rising at a faster pace.

Sri Lanka the defending champions have had their fair share of success in cricket, but earlier this year we saw them getting defeated by New Zealand. Overall they have lost more matches this year and winning, but this can change as the T20 World cup will be starting soon after this tournament. Later this year they have a tour of England and a tour of South Africa towards the end of the year and into the next one. They might still have time to correct their form and re-establish themselves as champions, with Bangladesh they have odds on their side as the team is consider a lot weaker than Sri Lanka. But then again we have seen Bangladesh earn draws against powerful teams like New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the past.
So there are chances of Sri Lanka winning but Bangladesh will try their best as they desperately need to win, watch this intense match on Sunday 28th February and see who fetches the victory. You can watch this match online as YuppTV is presenting an Exclusive telecast of the MicromaxAsia Cup 2016 T20, all you need is a working internet connection and a simple online registration to start enjoying the live stream of the match for free in UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Europe and for a nominal charge in US.

Types Of Video Games

Types Of Video Games

Video games are sorted into many categories depending on the content. Going by that rule, many games fit into multiple categories. Nevertheless, we can understand the type of almost all games, by a description of the type, which they closely match. Here, a list of the popular game categories is given. However, there are still more games out there which do not fall into this listing.

Action (First Person Shooting):

This is by far one of the most popular computer games. The player acts as a character and he looks either through the character’s eyes or over his shoulder. The player/character moves through a series of obstacles, killing or avoiding enemies and over to the next level. The games generally have a time limit to complete a task and may lose a life or fail the level if the objective can not achieved within the time limit. The settings for the games vary from historical wars to fantasy universe wars.

Action games can further be classified as Stealth Games. While enemies are killed in Action games, Stealth Games require that enemies should be avoided or if necessary killed without attracting attention.

Driving Games:

Racing and driving games are another popular type of games. Both Motor Bike racing and Car racing games are available. The player gets to drive and has to compete against other drivers. Circuits as in reality racing, modification and choosing of vehicles are some of the specialties of this type of game.

Role Playing Game:

This is more or less like the First Person Shooting game. However, unlike the first person game, the game may be played as long as the story line is completed.

Fighting Games:

As the name suggests the player gets to play a character, which fights with other computer controlled, or player controlled characters. The aim is to win as in all types of games.

Strategy Games:

This is a mix and match of FPS (First Person Shooting) and RPG (Role Playing Game). The majority of games in this type are war games.

Sports Games:

Players get to play group sports like rugby and basketball or single participant games like skate boarding. Players may get to control the team as a whole or a single character that is on the field.

Simulation Games:

As the name suggests, this is simulating, for instance, piloting an airplane, building a city etc.

Puzzle Games.

This type of games requires more of the brain than brawn. It requires a level of thinking and understanding to solve the puzzles.

Casual Games:

This type of games is for those people who are not serious gamers. It has no story or strategy and when one has time to kill, these games are played. Cell phone games are categorized into this list.

Platform Games:

Games where the player has to jump on to or from suspended platforms or obstacles can be termed as platform games.

Multiplayer Games:

Where two or more players play a game simultaneously, competing against each other or playing as a team to achieve a goal is called multiplayer gaming.

Online Games:

Video games played over the internet are called online games.

Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPGs):

This is a combination of Role Playing Games (RPG) and Online games, where people from all over the world play games hosted by the publishers.

Get Intimate with Asia: Travel to Korea

Get Intimate with Asia: Travel to Korea

South Korea is one of the smaller nations in Asia, with a size comparable to the state of Indiana. What it lacks in size it makes up for in abundant culture, turbulent history, exquisite cuisine and a generous and welcoming society.

A Little Background before You Travel to Korea
The Korean peninsula has been literally and figuratively stuck between a rock and a hard place, namely Japan and China, for most of its existence. The region was prosperous under the three kingdoms of Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla during the first four centuries AD until the Mongolians raided the land and built an empire. The 16th century brought the end of the Mongolian Empire and the beginning of a massive game of tug-of-war between China and Japan over the strategic landmass. After World War II Korea finally broke free from Japan, with the USSR managing the North and the United States occupying the South. Today the North and South are two sovereign nations separated by a demilitarized zone. South Korea is officially known as the Republic of Korea (ROK) and commonly referred to simply as Korea.

There’s Still Soul in Seoul
Despite the fact that Seoul was largely burned to the ground during the Korean War (1950-53), the northern part of the capital city is still home to hundreds of spectacular palaces and shrines. The Chosun Dynasty’s Gyeongbokgung Palace is a 5.4 million square foot landmark with a 500-year history and stands among the remaining four palaces in Seoul. Nearly an entire day is necessary to explore the regal palace in all its magnificence. The Jongmyo Royal Shrine is a perfect next stop, as it was where the Chosun Dynasty worshipped. On the first Sunday of May each year a traditional memorial ceremony is held at the Shrine with all the grandeur of the occasion 500 years past.

The southern part of Seoul is the commercial center of the city and boasts a fascinating blend of traditional and hyper-modern architecture. It is also home to World Cup Stadium, intricately weaving shopping streets and even an amusement park, Lotte World. Make sure to visit the city gates, and then venture beyond into the strikingly lush and green landscape to travel Korea more personally.

When to Travel to Korea
Korea has a temperate clime, which results in heavier rain in the summer months (July and August) and a drier winter. Winter is white and snowy all over Korea and the ski season from November to March is extremely popular. There are 13 ski resorts in South Korea alone! After a day on the slopes it is common to relax in one of the many spas with natural hot spring baths. Summer is extremely crowded and very wet in Korea. For milder weather it is best to travel Korea in the spring or fall.

Traveling to South Korea any time of year is sure to be an exciting and rewarding experience, regardless of the weather!

Civilization 4 and Why I Hate My Office Phone

Civilization 4 and Why I Hate My Office Phone

If you’re familiar with the strategy PC gaming series “Civilization”, you probably know that it’s only slightly less addictive than crack. I’ve never tried crack, but the “word on the street”, so to speak, is that it’s a bit hard to let go of. I recently purchased Civilization 4, which is the latest in the Civilization series. That in itself isn’t so interesting, but what happened to me at my job as a result of it most certainly is. I work as a network administrator for a large insurance company in Illinois.

Part of my job is to repair PC’s as needed, which is quite often considering how many there are around this place. I informed my coworker, also a big civilization fan that I had the game and he suggested I bring it in for a little test run. Against my better judgment, we decided to play a hot seat game during work. “Hot seat” means that one player takes a turn, followed by the other, which is only possible with turn based games such as Civ. We both figured that there would always be one of us to answer the phone in our little repair-shop cubbyhole so we didn’t see how we could possibly get caught. Boy were we wrong! About four hours into a game things started getting interesting.

My civilization found his civilization and we started going to war against each other, as one might expect. I sat down for my turn and my coworker decided to head off to the bathroom. The phone rang, and I didn’t pick up so that whoever was on the other end wouldn’t hear the Civ theme music or the explosive sound of my Panzers running over his infantry. What I failed to remember is that our advanced phone system allows anyone to communicate with us on an open speaker phone provided we aren’t on the phone already. My boss utilized this function since no one answered while I was taking my turn…o.k., actually while I was taking my turn and bragging out loud to myself about how well I was doing in the game. I found myself in his office that afternoon, but luckily I was only reprimanded and not fired. Not only did I get into trouble, my coworker continues to make jokes about it at my expense.

I hate my office phone.

Yakyu – Baseball In Japan

Yakyu – Baseball In Japan

The popularity of the game baseball has crossed continents as far as the East Asian island of Japan. The exact date cannot be traced on when it really started as a sport in Japan, the estimated era that it got into the mentality of the Japanese was during the Meiji Era which was said to occur during the timeline of 1867 to 1912. This era served as Japan’s modernization period. The people adapted many western concepts from clothing, lifestyle and even sports. The game was called Yakkyu by the Japanese which meant “field ball”.

Baseball as a sport easily made it into the hearts of the Japanese because there is this psychological similarity of the ball game to the native sports of Japan namely sumo and the martial arts. If analyzed carefully baseball is a basic one on one battle between the pitcher and the batter which is very similar to how the sport of sumo and martial arts focus on the same aspects. Baseball requires timing, speed and precision, so does the native Japanese sports.

As the country developed into a modern Japan, so did the popularity of baseball. It started off in schools and made its way to become leagues in the country. But the journey was not that easy. As we know, Japan is considered to be one of the most closely knit countries in terms of culture and religion. Many criticized the sport in the early part of the twentieth century saying that it leads to mental pressure and other negative aspects concerning the human body.

Matsutara Shoriki, an owner of a famous newspaper in Japan was in favor of the sport and was more influential than the other critics. He sponsored a game which brought famous players like Babe Ruth and Jimmy Fox to play against Japan’s College league. The Americans won which inspired the fans. This event led to the formation of the first professional Japanese Baseball team known as the Great Tokyo baseball club in December 1934. Shoriki was named as the father of Japanese baseball.

It was in 1936 that the first baseball league of Japan was formed the Japan Pro-Baseball League (PBL).

When war broke out in Japan, the country suffered great physical damages, the people however used baseball to boost up the morale when it resumed on the 1950s. The game was even made more popular within this decade with the help of television. It opened the doors to a more diverse audience in the country.

Today as we see it in cable sports channels, baseball still is considered as one of the favorite past time of the Japanese. Some Japanese players are even made part of US teams.

Thinking Outside the Books – Homeschool Math Lab Days

Thinking Outside the Books – Homeschool Math Lab Days

At a recent homeschool convention, I had the opportunity to speak to many moms about ways to think “Outside the Books”, when it comes to our homeschooling. I wasn’t advocating never using textbooks or changing programs, but rather, helping them see that there are many ways to “show what you know”. It is also important for us to help our children see that real learning happens all the time, not just when they are filling out worksheets or sitting at our school table.

One way we have added a bit of spice to our homeschooling over the years is with a weekly Math Lab day. On one day a week I plan for us to leave the math curriculum on the shelf and do some hands-on learning with games, crafts, etc. Math Lab days are also great for using math software you have sitting around, but may never get around to using. Or how about those math games you have purchased, but usually remain on the shelf collecting dust?

Just what kinds of things can you do on Math Lab Day? I’m glad you asked!
Young children

* Counting games with candy, Legos, or anything else you might have lying around.
* “War” with a regular deck of cards or make your own deck with numbers to 100 and maybe a “wild card” or two to make things more exciting.
* If you have them, Snap Cubes (a popular manipulative) are great to play with, making “trains” of different color patterns. You start the pattern, and your child adds on to the train following the pattern. Then let them start a pattern and you finish it.
* Any board game that requires dice and counting.
* Use standard and non-standard items to measure things around the house. “Hey, Mom, did you know the cat is 50 paper clips long?”
* Kitchen – baking involves using lots of real life fractions – while you’re at it,how about sharing the “fruits” of your math lesson with a neighbor!
* Play store

Elementary thru Middle School

* Math with Literature! We love Sir Cumference, A Place for Zero, Equal Schmequal, and other titles in the math adventure series.
* Our favorite math games are S’math and Knock Out! from Muggin’s Math – we just purchased their new fraction games, too.
* Board games, including Monopoly, PayDay!, Sequence and more.
* Card games like UNO and War. A favorite is to use flashcards with math facts as our “war” deck.
* Videos: Multiplication Rock, Money Rock
* Play store and many of the other activities from the above list
* If you have any of the handheld, electronic math toys, Lab Day is a good time to make sure they are put to use
* Computer games – Money Town, Math Blaster, etc.
* Use activities from “Family Math”, “Math for Smarty Pants” or “Games for Learning Math.”
* Plan an imaginary trip and use a map to figure how many miles you will travel.
* For kids interested in the Stock Market, you can use Lab Day each week to track and check on a couple of stocks, plotting their progress on a graph.
* Visit one of the fun, free math game sites online like the Math Arcade at There are lots more free websites for online learning in my book, Using the Internet In Your Homeschool.

One other idea that we’ve implemented, not just for Lab Day, but as a way to add some more real life application to our math lessons is the “Mommy Bank”. I gave each of my kids a blank check or savings registry book. Their allowance is “direct deposited” into their Mommy Bank account. They must add the amount each week. They also deposit money received for their birthday, odd jobs, etc. When they purchase something, I pay for it and we deduct it from their account in the Mommy Bank. Of course, older children often prefer to keep their money with them, but this works well when they are younger or for those kids who are not yet ready to carry around cash.

The above lists are just a few of the things we have done on Math Lab Day over the years. Writing this article has reminded me that my own homeschooling has fallen into a bit of a rut. Sounds like tomorrow needs to be an “Outside the Book” kind of day!

The Secrets to Winning at Paintball

The Secrets to Winning at Paintball

Most team sports require teamwork, skill and planning. This can be seen in the winning teams of sports like basketball, football and hockey. The same approach can be taken to make a very good paintball team.

The best way to become a championship team is to know how to play both as a team and individually. It starts at practice where the team will learn to play both offense and in defense.

War games are simulated to emulate the real thing. A fort can be made and some members selected to protect it while the other group attacks. After each game, an assessment must be made so that any mistakes made can be corrected to make the team more efficient.

Aside from conducting some exercises within the group, other teams can be invited to participate in a practice to sharpen the skills before a tournament.

There are several ways that the exercise can end: by capturing the flag, eliminating all the members of the other group or waiting until the time expires. A good way to train the participants to move swiftly during an offensive is by agreeing to a time limit before the exercise begins…

The members should rotate the roles of offense and defense during training exercise as both will have to be used in a real game.

Marksmanship should also be part of training. The members must be able to hit both stationary and moving targets since both are necessary in an actual game where both sides have limited ammunition.

Since the exercise usually lasts from 30 minutes to an hour, the team should make every shot count. The players should only fire when there is a clear shot available rather than not being able to fire when it matters the most.

Stealth is another element needed to win the game of paintball. By being able to sneak up on the enemy first, the team can attack the enemy position before the opposing forces can mount a counterattack.

Learning to communicate using hand signals and sounds will prevent the other team from knowing what the team’s plans are. By practicing all of these drills and scenarios in practice, the group will be ready to take on anyone in the league.

The secret to winning at paintball is not rocket science; it just takes a lot of practice so that each person knows what to do which will pay off during competition.

Playing The Miniature Golf

Playing The Miniature Golf

Among the many forms of golfing, miniature golf or mini golf has started to become a popular past time among busy professionals and family alike who are either popular fanatics of the game or prefer to take on a regular gaming activity in the comfort of their own homes.

Perhaps, miniature golf was created due to the increasing demands of golf courses that do not occupy a significant land area but still able to provide all the amenities expected of the more conventional golf courses.

This midget type of golfing became surprisingly popular before World War 1 in 1910 and the early 1920’s. It was originally termed as “Garden Golf” due to the usual scenery characteristic of a golf landscape.

Thomas McCulloch Fairbairn was the first to completely initiate change in the way mini golf courses were designed and played. He takes on a new role in introducing anatomical changes to the then current details of midget golf courses.

He was to contribute to the dramatic advancement of mini golf landscape by replacing the usual objects typical of conventional golf courses, to artificial greens and physical hazards.

A mixture of color dyes, cottonseed hulls, tree landscaping, and the creation of artificial bunkers, curves and rolls and water hazards (miniature lakes) have successfully replicated the more traditional golf sport into a geographically manageable level.

Ensuing Years

The late 1930’s further revolutionized the production of golf courses when Joe Taylor and Bob Taylor added new features to the then mini golf architecture.

They put up more obstacles that serves to make mini golfing a more fun game to play. Wells, castles and windmills were installed along with other physical deterrents.

With their increasing efforts to create a more ideal midget golf course, a number of industries catering to the production of these merchandises created the first National Association of Putting Course Operators, Manufacturers and Suppliers in 1961 in association with Arnold Palmer and Don Clayton.

Al Lomma together with Ralph Lomma, his brother, of Lomma Enterprises, Inc. in 1955 introduced a more robust feature and broke away from the more conventional straight putting.

Current Developments

Mini golf tournaments are now being aired on television especially pn ESPN suggesting the game’s thriving economic status.

More and more people are beginning to appreicate the value of mini golf courses and statistics show that more than 45% among the players of this popular game are families or groups of friends.

With this renewed and thriving interest in mini golf games, the US ProMiniGolf Association, the officially recognized affiliate organizations in the World Minigolf Sports Federation was instituted to take over initiatives related to the game.

MAH JONGG Mind Puzzles

MAH JONGG Mind Puzzles

MAH JONGG is a very fun and challenging puzzle game that was developed by an American businessperson named Joseph Babcock, near the end of World War I. He didn’t actually invent the game, but rather modified a Chinese game of the 19th century.
He had played it in Shanghai. Promptly we fell in love with it. He decided that Americans would really like the game, but thought it would be too difficult as it was, so he simplified the rules.

The Chinese game was known by several different names, depending on the region and dialect, but the one that’s known best roughly translates to “Game of the Four Winds.”
Rumor has it that Mr. Babcock named his new game after the bird on one of the tiles, which represents a mythical figure “MAH JONGG,” which basically means “the Bird of a Thousand Intelligences.”

There are many variations of MAH JONGG, but they are basically played the same way. You have several tiles laid out on the table, which usually consist of the following categories, or suits. Circles, (numbered 1 to 9); Chinese characters, (numbered 1 to 9); Flowers (Mum, Plum, Bamboo, and Orchid); Seasons (Spring, Summer, Winter, and Autumn); The Four Winds (North, South, East, and West); Bamboo, (numbered 1 to 9 and The Bird of a Thousand Intelligences); and Dragons. In some cases, the suits are different, but the basic concept is the same for all. The numbers are only for more convenient matching, unless you are playing a scored variation of the game.

The tiles are randomly arranged in a layout of your choosing at the beginning of the game. The number of tiles in the layout can vary from version to version. The object of the game is to clear the tiles by matching two identical tiles until there are no remaining moves left.

Each pair is removed from the layout. Tiles must have an open side to be removed, and must not be under another tile, either. You keep matching pairs until no more pairs are available to match. In some variations, you then shuffle the remaining tiles, placing them randomly in the last positions they occupied, and continue until you have removed all the pairs, or there are no more moves left. In other variations, once you get to the point that there are pairs that are no more available, the game is over, and you begin again

The basic rules are that numbered tiles can only be matched in the same suit, for instance, a nine of circles can only be matched to another nine of circles, but not to a nine of bamboo.
Compass Directions can only be matched against the exact same direction, such as with North with North or South with South. Dragons must be the same color.
In the case of the Flowers and Seasons, any Flower can be matched with another, and any Season can be matched with another.

Although MAH JONGG is typically a one-player game, there are variations, which can be played by two or more players. Nowadays, people generally play MAH JONGG on their computers or the Internet, but it is still played the old-fashioned way with tiles on a table, as well. It is played just for fun and relaxation, and there are also tournaments. Game and software developers invent new variations all the time. People are playing both alone and against one another on the Internet every day. It is a game enjoyed by the young and the old. MAH JONGG is timeless and remains one of the most popular puzzle games of our time.

Xbox 360: A Wonderful Platform For Indie Developers

Xbox 360: A Wonderful Platform For Indie Developers

When you’re looking at the Xbox 360’s title list, you can probably recite the big names by heart. Gears of War, Halo, Dance Central… these are the titles that the system is known for and receive tons of media attention and critical acclaim, but have you heard of Bitstream? No? How about ‘Protect Me Knight!’? That’s probably because these titles didn’t receive a single bit of advertising, well no official advertising at least. The Xbox Live Marketplace is a fantastic place for Indie game developers to flex their skills and produce some really great games for an audience they might normally have a lot of trouble reaching. What does this mean for you? Well in general, it means a lot of things.

If you like great games from talented new minds, this means that you’re getting just that. Independent game designers are working hard to put out original content and unique games all the time. These aren’t just big-budget million dollar releases, these are titles that small groups or even individuals are putting their blood, sweat, and tears into to release to a huge audience. The indie game marketplace is a literal breeding ground for the next big thing to come along and shake up the gaming world, providing us with quality entertainment at a fraction of the price of a regular game. In fact, most indie games cost 80-240 MS points, the highest costs capping out at 400 points.

If you’re on the developer’s side of the equation this means that you have an amazing platform to produce your games for. If you’ve been working on a personal project or have always dreamed of doing so, the Xbox Live marketplace is the perfect place for you to release your creation. On top of being able to release your game to one the largest online gaming network around, you have the opportunity to make a few bucks for your work. That’s right, Microsoft makes quarterly payments to their indie game developers based on the amount of points the game costs and how many sales it makes. So if you’re a developer looking to release their gem of an idea to the world, this might be the right time and place for you!

One thing to watch for as you browse the indie game market, however, is dud games. For every truly amazing indie game that gets released, you’re bound to find a dozen terrible games. Much like any major release, there are games that the developers put their heart and soul into and there are titles that get made with a minimum amount of effort in a hope to make a quick buck. When you’re thinking about purchasing an indie game from the marketplace, be sure to follow a few simple rules to keep yourself from getting burned. First, make sure you check the star rating, number of reviews on the game, or even Google the title to see what other people are saying about it. Second, a picture is a thousand words and the screenshots of the game on its page will give you an idea of what it’s like. Finally, always download the demo before you commit, even if some of the game’s features are locked in the demo you can generally get an idea of whether or not you’ll enjoy it. The Xbox Live indie game market is a revolutionary place to find great, cheap games that you’ll likely never see in a store.

Pool Billiards League Play. What League do you play?

Pool Billiards League Play. What League do you play?

I titled this article Pool Billiards league play so it will be easy for someone who is searching either word to find this article.

I currently play on a BCA team once per week on Thursday nights and two APA teams, one on Tuesday and the other on Fridays.

The APA league is handicapped and we use the APA equalizer system. This comes into affect on Tuesday nights because it is a regular APA league. This league is 8 ball and my skill level is a 7. This is as high as it gets in 8 ball.

I played a guy ranked as a 3 this past Tuesday, which meant I had to win 6 games before he won 2 games. I had him down 3 to nothing when I cut a ball in the corner and accidentally kicked the 8 ball in with my cue ball. This put the heat on me and he was on the hill. I cruised through the next 2 games and he had a chance to beat me on the final game. Lucky for me he missed the ball before the 8 and I cleared the rack to win the match 6 to 1.

I am ranked a 9 in APA 9 ball, but I am not currently on a 9 ball team. What is your favorite Pool Billiards game?

Our Friday APA league is an all star league. This means that we all play heads up with no regard to skill level or handicaps. We play a combination of 8 ball and 9 ball and it is a race to 7. (First to win 7 games) The player who wins the lag at the beginning of the game chooses either the break on the first rack or which game is played first. (8 ball or 9 ball)

The Thursday BCA league is not handicapped and everyone plays heads up. This is an 8 ball league and 5 players take turns shooting one game each per set and we play 5 sets in a night. This past Thursday night I won 4 games and lost one in a long safety war. I had 2 break and runs from the 4 wins.

I would love to hear about league play in your home town and it would be cool to find out if you have a ranking system and what your skill level is. Drop me a line and let me know. Do you prefer to play pool or billiards heads up or is a handicap system better for you?

Games for Locksmiths

Games for Locksmiths

Being a locksmith is not necessarily a boring job. There is the limited interaction with the customers to keep a locksmith in touch with the human side of the business. The work gives the locksmith focus. The travel provides stimulation. The technological changes and education to keep up with the times provides mental growth. So, what about the fun? Even these mechanical minded members of our community like to have fun.

The challenge of picking locks is viewed as a game for some locksmiths. As they grow in their experience, they are able to take on more complicated tasks. It is said that a locksmith sees a lock as a puzzle.

A locksmith plays a part in the game called World of War Craft, unlocking boxes in the trade screen. A game called Crack the Code allows the locksmith to click on numbers and enter until the combination is correct. Cleaner Scrape is an online game featuring Bob the Locksmith. There’s also a Kensington Lock Picking online free flash game. Gridlock is another fun online game for lock pickers that offers three levels of difficulty to accommodate beginners to the more experienced.

A board game that relates to the locksmith trade is called Break the Safe. It’s a fairly new game created by Forrest-Puzan Creative. Players have to work as a team to find the keys, disarm the traps, and evade the guard dogs.

On a bigger scale, locksmiths can join in a Dutch Open lock-picking competition in the Dutch village of Sneek. This offers intellectual stimulation and fun for any locksmith or lock picker lucky enough to participate. Some of the world’s most accomplished lock pickers attend this event.

Another large event for lock pickers and locksmiths is held by the Locksport International. DEFCON 14 held workshops, talks, sales of tools, speed competitions, tool making, and demonstrations for the enjoyable event that welcomed amateurs as well as professionals.

A Lock Picking Pogoda will be held in Cleveland, Ohio in April of 2008 for locksmiths and lock picking enthusiasts. Featured will be your regular American locks, Chinese knock-offs, cabinet locks, and high security locks. Safe cracking is also on the agenda to present a challenge for those who are brave enough to give it a shot.

Locksmiths aren’t the only ones who enjoy the locksmith events, games, and clubs. There are people who enjoy learning about locks and how they work just for the fun of it. It can be gratifying to bust the secrets of the lock companies and manufacturers. This isn’t necessarily a bad idea. It provides a challenge to show these businesses where their vulnerabilities lie so that improvements can be made. People who learn how to pick locks are not just criminally-minded individuals.

Although this possibility does exist, it is only a part of the group of people interested in this trade.
Locksmiths do, of course, enjoy other activities besides lock picking games and events. Just as doctors want more fun than just playing the board game called Operation, the locksmiths are going to be unique individuals who will want more fun than just that which revolves around their craft.

How Basketball Came To Be…

How Basketball Came To Be…

In early December 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a minister on the faculty of a college for YMCA professionals (today, Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, sought a vigorous indoor game to keep his students occupied and at proper levels of fitness during the long New England winters. After rejecting other ideas as either too rough or poorly suited to walled-in gymnasiums, he wrote the basic rules and nailed a peach basket onto an 10-foot (3.05 m) elevated track. In contrast with modern basketball nets, this peach basket retained its bottom, so balls scored into the basket had to be poked out with a long dowel each time. A soccer ball was used to shoot goals.

Dr. Naismith’s handwritten diaries of the time indicate that he was nervous about this invention, which incorporated rules from a Canadian children’s game called “Duck on a Rock”, as many had failed before it. Dr. Naismith himself was originally from Canada.

Naismith’s new game is quite similar to the game of team handball, which had already been invented in the early 1890s.

The first official basketball game was played in the YMCA gymnasium on January 20, 1892 with nine players, on a court just half the size of a present-day National Basketball Association (NBA) court. “Basket ball”, the name suggested by one of Naismith’s students, was popular from the beginning.

Women’s basketball began in 1892 at Smith College when Senda Berenson, a physical education teacher, modified Naismith’s rules for women.

Basketball’s early adherents were dispatched to YMCAs throughout the United States, and it quickly spread through the USA and Canada. By 1895, it was well established at several women’s high schools. While the YMCA was responsible for initially developing and spreading the game, within a decade it discouraged the new sport, as rough play and rowdy crowds began to detract from the YMCA’s primary mission. However, other amateur sports clubs, colleges, and professional clubs quickly filled the void. In the years before World War I, the Amateur Athletic Union and the Intercollegiate Athletic Association (forerunner of the NCAA) vied for control over the rules for the game.

Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball. The first balls made specifically for basketball were brown, and it was only in the late 1950s that Tony Hinkle, searching for a ball that would be more visible to players and spectators alike, introduced the orange ball that is now in common use.

Dribbling, the bouncing of the ball up and down while moving, was not part of the original game except for the “bounce pass” to teammates. Passing the ball was the primary means of ball movement. Dribbling was eventually introduced but limited by the asymmetric shape of early balls. Dribbling only became a major part of the game around the 1950s as manufacturing improved the ball shape.

Basketball, netball, dodgeball, volleyball, and lacrosse are the only ball games which have been identified as being invented by North Americans. Other ball games, such as baseball and Canadian football, have Commonwealth of Nations, European, Asian or African connections.

Games for Children: How to Develop their Analytical Skills Using a Deck of Cards

Games for Children: How to Develop their Analytical Skills Using a Deck of Cards

One of the most investigated subjects currently is children’s mind development and analytical skills. More and more studies are being made and more lessons, programs and games are being developed in order to boost early stages of growth and increase existing skills.

There are more options and possibilities now than ever, starting with different educational facilities suited for different levels of development, and carrying on with special TV shows, books and games. These games are especially built to work on the growing and developing areas in a child’s mind.

These skills can be developed in all kinds of different ways and not necessarily in a structural program or a special kindergarten. It can also be done in the simple and fun way of gaming. Considering the fact that there are hundreds of mind developing games for children, in this article, we will focus on card games.

Card games can come in different shapes and sizes and at different difficulty levels. The most basic card game is the card memory game. The game is played with half a deck or less spread on the table, while each card is facing down. Each player, on his turn, chooses to peek at one card at a time in order to eventually form couple or groups (based on what was decided earlier to be a group). This game helps to develop the child’s memory skills and his ability to divide logically the symbols into groups.

Another game similar to the memory game, but one that focuses and handles a completely different area of your childs brain is the group game. At this game, the deck of cards is divided to the number of player so all the players receive an equal amount of cards. Each player on his turn form groups (based on what was decided earlier to be a group) and place them on the table. The players’ goal at this game is to get rid of their entire cards by adding them to the groups already exists on the table. The players have the total freedom to change the position of the cards on the table as long as none of them gets left out of a group.

This game is more complicated then the other card games and therefore it contributes more to the child’s growth more. The game teaches the players to make decisions based on optional following moves and to solve problems using their giving cards, which is in this case literally speaking. The game is highly recommended for children and adults as one, for it is competitive and suspenseful as much as it is friendly and fun.

Another popular game that most kids enjoy is war. But do not let them play it the usual way where the stronger card beats the weaker one. Instead, set different rules for each round. You can determine such things as that a two of clubs and a six of hearts beat any cards. You could even make it more challenging by setting a range of cards as jokers.

The variety of these kinds of games is relatively big and it is growing more and more as people are constantly looking for new games to play. As for the kids, the may be participating for a whole different reason, but the outcomes are the same.

The History Of Arcade Games

The History Of Arcade Games

Gaming today is a recognized element of our cultural scenery, even to people who are over thirty or who can barely recall the time before arcade games were invented. Gone are the days when you would play Pac-Man or the famous Mario Brothers game. Although they are still played and enjoyed today, they have been enhanced into dimensional games and versions. People will never forget the old games and that’s a good thing because there is a history here that shouldn’t be forgotten.

Gaming is not a recent breakthrough. Arcade games began many years ago. They weren’t as acceptable as they are now. Artifacts from Egypt and Sumeria have revealed that our ancestors enjoyed playing board games thousands of years ago.

The electronic games we have now required the creation of electronic computers. The early computers were slow and prone to failures. Early programmers felt obliged to waste their time by programming these computers to do things like tic-tac-toe. When World War II ended, electronic computers started becoming standard equipment in the more progressive laboratories. Soon afterwards, they were incorporated with large corporations, establishments and companies. It can be argued that university students were the first game programmers, exploring their fantasies and sci-fi visions into digital applications which we are still using. Their imaginations have turned gaming into a digital masterpiece.

The perception of establishing an electronic game system to the screen or the television was invented by Ralph Bauer during the early 1950’s. This made the first game possible. After that, he introduced and presented his ideas to Magnavox, a television company. The company liked his ideas and inventions so well that they have released a sophisticated version of Bauer’s “Brown Box” prototype, known as the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972. By today’s standards, the Odyssey was prehistoric, displaying only spots of light on the screen. It also required the use of translucent plastic overlays to replicate the appearance of the game.

The first truly popular console system was known as the Atari 2600. It was released in 1977. The Atari made use of plug-in cartridges in order to play a variety of games. The popularity of Space Invaders was a breakthrough and it became a best seller during that time. The computer games written for the TRS-80 and Apple II computers were attracting interest at this time.

There are several books and articles about the history of arcade games.

Chess Rules Then and Now

Chess Rules Then and Now

The exact origins of chess are still unclear though
others believe that the game was based on the Indian
Chaturanga, which literally means “four” and “arm”.
The ancient “chess” game used pieces that are slightly
similar to modern chess, as well as movements.
However, the rules of such a game are yet to be

In every game there are rules and chess in not an
exception. In fact, there are several rules that
govern the competitive and recreational game. However,
the question really is, where did the rules came from
and how were they developed?

Early Chess Rules

During the 16th century, the rules of modern chess
took form in Italy. Since then, the rules of the game
have evolved continuously. Going back centuries in the
past, before the modern rules even took form in Italy,
chess was played very slowly, with some games lasting
for several days. There are other variations of the
rules that began to change the shape of the game
during the 1300s. The most notable, though originally
unpopular, change in the rules was the ability of the
pawn to move two squares during the first move instead
of one.

After 1475 A.D., there are new modifications in the
rules that further led to the evolution of the game.
For instance, the queen was introduced and made a
powerful new piece. This eventually led to the
additional value attached to the previously considered
minor tactic called the pawn promotion.

In Chaturanga, the war elephant has also evolved into
the bishop, thus providing more range. The noticeable
changes in the rules also gave way to the rise of
figures that are “unwarlike”. Eventually, chess moved
closer to the court and ordinary household due to the
departure of pure military symbolism to the game,
which was noticeably prevalent in India and Persia.

Rise of the Modern Chess Rules

Specifically during the Middle Ages, a new set of
rules for the game had emerged. Within this principle,
both the rook and the king acquired the privilege to
castle, which is a variation of the move, called
Castling. Since the pawns were given the chance to
move two squares during the first move, the en passant
rule was consequential. More so, the pawns gained the
capability to be promoted to a higher rank if they
were able to reach the eighth rank.

Aside from those rules, there are other three
guidelines that were introduced, which eventually
changed through the years. Firstly, there was the
stalemate rule that forever changed the outcome of
chess games several times. Secondly, the threefold
repetition was also added. Lastly, the fifty move rule
was also added, in which a draw can be claimed if
there has been no evident pawn movement and capture of
any piece during the last fifty numbers of moves.

Since then, the rules of the chess game have been
slightly altered until the early 19th century, during
which the game reached its current form. Nowadays, the
fundamental chess rules are widely accepted among both
international and national chess governing bodies,
like the USCF or the United States Chess Federation
and the FIDE or the World Chess Federation.

However, even if the rules of the chess game has
evolved, the basic objective of the game remains the
same – to threaten the opponent’s most valuable piece,
the king, with a checkmate.

PlayStation 3 Launch Dates you Should Not Miss

PlayStation 3 Launch Dates you Should Not Miss

Video game consoles are on the loose. Since the Magnavox Odyssey era, video gaming systems are evolving to become one of the most powerful machines in the entertainment industry that ever existed. From the simple animation and mono background game music during the Atari years, video game consoles nowadays will make you feel that you are the one fighting monsters, racing with other cars, or shooting the ball to the hoop right in front of your opponent because of advanced three-dimensional animation technology, thanks to game software developers.

Thus, do not be surprised if video game consoles are now on the transition to the so-called “seventh generation”. Despite of the video game crash in 1977 wherein many game manufacturers abandoned the game console manufacturing industry due to unpopularity, gaming firms who have left in the battlefield tried to win the hearts of the gaming public, especially the younger generation, by producing high-quality games compatible to their consoles. And with the success of these gaming firms, video game consoles stand to its popularity among gamers of varying age groups, which eventually paved the way to the birth of the seventh generation of video game consoles.

The seventh generation began by the introduction of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in November 2005, following the huge success of its predecessor, the Xbox. Since then, rival game console manufacturers began producing new genres of video game consoles, each one having unique characteristic from its rival consoles or predecessors alike. Thus, the generation is branded to be a “console war” in the history of interactive entertainment.

Following the success of Sony Corporation’s PlayStation 1 and 2, they are determined to maintain their dominance in the game console market. Thus, in May 16, 2005 at the E3 Conference, Japan’s leading electronic company, under its computer entertainment subsidiary, formally unveiled to the public the latest member of the PlayStation 3 series—the PlayStation 3 (PS3). It is expected to compete with its two rival game consoles, which are the Nintendo’s Wii and the Xbox 360.

PlayStation 3 is scheduled to be released on the following launch dates:

• The first release is scheduled in November 11, 2006 at Japan.
• Six days after the Japan debut, PS3’s launch date in Canada and United States would be on November 17 of the same year.
• On the other hand, the launch date of PS3 on Australasia and Europe is scheduled to be on March 2007, with the definite date pending on the decision of Sony Corporation.

On these launch dates, Sony has plans of releasing two different configurations for the PlayStation 3. The first one is known as the “premium version”, where the video game console will come with a 60 GB internal hard drive with multiple flash memory card readers and Wi-Fi or wireless internet connectivity. The other is known as the “alternate configuration” in which the video game console will come in lower internal hard drive (20 GB to be exact) and without Wi-Fi connectivity and memory card reader features, though the hard drive of the alternate configuration can be upgraded and memory card support can be added through the use of adapters.

Despite of the different launch dates of PlayStation 3, it is expected to be a hit for countries where it would be initially released. Watch out for the launch dates mentioned above and experience the interactive entertainment courtesy of PlayStation 3.

Balloon Wars

Balloon Wars

In the winter everyone loves a good snowball fight, build a fort and stockpile the
snowballs and you are set. The same idea can be implemented in the summertime too. If
it’s a nice day, fill balloons with water and have a balloon war.

If you don’t like the idea of your kids throwing balloons at each other than there are other
uses for water balloons that are just as fun. Set-up a target and have a competition to see
who can hit it the most times. You can make it a challenge to break the balloon each time
or make it harder by setting the rule of hitting the target but not breaking the balloon.

Play water balloon baseball; replace the baseball with a water-filled balloon. Of course
the person up at bat is going to get wet if they are able to hit the target. If a child hits the
balloon and it doesn’t burst it is considered a strike. When the balloon is hit and does
burst it is an automatic home run.

A simple game of catch can be fun too. Trying to catch the balloon without bursting it
can be hard – see how long one balloon can be tossed before it breaks. As the kids are
going to get wet, it is best to play any of these games on a hot day.

Clean-up after any game that has involved water balloons is very important. Small
children and pets could pick up the small pieces and choke on them. You can make
picking up the most balloon pieces a game at the end for incentive. Let the kids know
that whoever has the most balloons after they are all cleaned up will get a special
surprise. Or, give each a different color of balloon and make it their job to pick up all the
balloon pieces that are of their color.

Dog Heroes: All Time Heroes

Dog Heroes: All Time Heroes

Everyday, people witness countless acts of heroism, big and small. Heroes, too, come in different shapes and sizes, forms and breeds, man and animals alike. Dolphins, seals, horses, cats and whales are just a few from the animal kingdom that displays tremendous protective instincts that save man from all sorts of danger. But nothing beats “the man’s best friend”.

After displays of great courage and bravery during World War I, dogs have seen a different light. They were thrust into the limelight unknowingly. Since then, dogs have been called to as all time heroes – recognized, rescued, trained and cared for by man. All kinds of award were given to dogs to celebrate their heroism and saving prowess such as the “Dog Hero of the Year Award.”

The dogs carry on a long line of lifesavers. They have shown unthinkable acts of saving adults and children alike in grave danger like fire, drowning, road and home accidents, intruders and robbers, and even in a huge tragedy like 9/11. The images of heroic dogs finding possible survivors or even lost bodies under rubbles and debris in ground zero crushed the hearts of many Americans.

These canine heroes come from all breeds, backgrounds and locations. Take note, they are not pedigreed. These dog heroes are not at all dominated by big dogs, though they are often used for the purpose of national security. Their breeds vary from the famous German Shepherd, Saint Bernard and Collies (remember Lassie?) to Poodle, Labrador, American Pit Bull Terrier, Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Doberman, Pinscher, English Springer Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Great Dane, Newfoundland, Rottweiler, Shetland, Sheepdog, Terrier and Weimaraner.

During the Vietnam War, 4,000 dogs were recruited to assist and protect U.S. troops, thus prevented an estimate of 10,000 plus American casualties. At that time, they were considered “surplus armaments”. They were either euthanized or left to their fates in Vietnam. Now, books and documentaries preserved the memories of countless canines that aided in the protection of mankind.

Today, dog heroes play an even more critical role in the fight against terrorism. The ability of dogs to detect bombs is already proven since World War I. A German shepherd’s nose has 250 billion smelling cells to give it the ability to detect a target odor amidst all other odors.

Breeds do not guarantee a “dog hero status.” Like men, dogs need a rare set of attributes to stand out: intelligence, being calm even in the presence of loud noise, focus amidst distractions and a compulsive desire to play with a toy. After all, the game is to find the scent and get the toy.

An American Legend Dies ~ Winchester’s Demise

An American Legend Dies ~ Winchester’s Demise

On March 31, 2006, with very little notice, an American Legend died and a big piece of Americana quietly faded into the dustbin of history. On that day, U.S. Repeating Arms Co., maker of Winchester Rifles closed their New Haven, Connecticut plant for good, ending the life of a product so closely intertwined in the growth and history of our country that the two are almost inseparable. This involvement began in 1857 when Oliver Winchester acquired and restructured the failing Volcanic Repeating Firearms Co., subsequently changing the name to Winchester. During a large part of their 149 year existence, the name Winchester was synonymous with rifles, especially the lever action rifle, which began with the Henry Rifle, a lever action rifle that fired a metallic cased cartridge and held 16 rounds. It began appearing in the hands of Union Soldiers in 1862 and was quickly cursed by Confederate Troops as “that damn Yankee rifle they load on Sunday and shoot all week.”

Next came the 1866 model, dubbed “Yellow Boy” by the Indians because of its bright brass frame, protected the pioneers on their trek during the Westward Migration after the Civil War. The Yellow Boy was followed by the Model 1873 known as “The Gun That Won The West” and was found over the fireplaces of settlers cabins and in the teepees of some Indians. It rode in the saddle scabbards of cowboys and armed lawmen and outlaws alike.

The culmination of all of this was the introduction of the model 1894, destined to be one of the few firearms to be in continuous production for over 100 years and the best selling center fire rifle Winchester ever made. More deer have been taken with the Winchester 1894 Rifle than any other rifle made.

In addition, Winchester made the Model 70 bolt-action rifle that became known as “the Rifleman’s Rifle”. Found in hunting camps the world over, it has taken every species of game animal on the planet. Winchester also worked 24/7 producing rifles for our Doughboys in World War I and for their sons, the GI’s of World War II.

Please pardon my nostalgia, but it saddens me to think my grandsons and other boys will never know the thrill of opening a long narrow box and finding their first rifle therein with Winchester stamped on the barrel, as this writer did on his 15th birthday.

Thanks Winchester, not only for the memories, but also for playing such an important and integral part in this Nation’s history. You will be sadly missed.

African Safari Is Affordable For You

African Safari Is Affordable For You

An African Safari is the vacation of a lifetime. Make sure you choose your tour company wisely as there is a lot of difference between tour operators. Looking for great value? Ask a travel agent to keep an eye out for African Safari special offers to find exclusive tours at unbeatable prices. Or if you have some extra time, surf the internet for a few weeks before booking so that you get a good idea of the tours being offered. Safaris, aside from the airfare, are not much more expensive than other guided tours unless you take the luxury option, and it’s bound to be an unforgettable vacation.

Safaris to the Kruger Park, which is roughly the size of a small country, are always popular. This area of Africa has seen human habitation for roughly 40,000 years. Indigenous populations coexisted in balance with the local game, but after Europeans arrived and began to hunt for trophies, game populations declined drastically due to the uncontrolled slaughter despite hunting laws introduced to South Africa in 1858.

The area first became protected in 1989, just before the Boer War, after a campaign by Paul Kruger to establish the Sabi game reserve between the Sabi and Crocodile rivers. After the Boer War ended in 1902, the James Stevenson-Hamilton was appointed warden of the Sabi Game Reserve, and formal protection and rebuilding of game stocks was instituted. Stevenson-Hamilton became determined to protect the area permanently by making it a national park. After much lobbying, he succeeded. The national parks act was passed in 1926 and the Sabi and Singwitsi reserves (by then the Transvaal Game Reserve) became the Kruger National Park.

It took a few years before visitors discovered the park. In 1927, a total of 3 tourist vehicles ventured into the park, bringing in an income of 3 pounds. By 1930, there were 900 vehicles roaming on the 500 kilometres of new roads in the park, and staying in the huts and tents that could accommodate up to 700 people. Stevenson-Hamilton was an outdoorsman who disapproved of luxurious facilities, and he attempted to maintain a rustic atmosphere. However, when he left, accommodations were upgraded and the park became a reknowned destination for tourists from all around the world.

By 1955, visitors flocked to the park in numbers exceeded 10,000 a year, prompting extensive development of roads and tourist services along with the fencing of the park boundaries. During peak holiday season, such as Christmas, Easter and July, the park can be quite crowded. There is now a daily limit to number of visitors, so if you must travel in peak season, reserve well ahead of time.

Adjacent to the Kruger on its Western Boundary are a number of private game reserves, including the Sabi Sand, Timbavati and Manyeleti. Kruger Park Safaris offer a huge variety and density of wildlife, as well as a wide range of safari experiences. You’ll never be able to see the whole park in just one tour. Safaris include everything from tented walking safaris and self-driving safaris to ultra-luxurious fly-in safaris. Kruger Park holds hundreds of lodges for different tastes and budgets.

The Kruger Park is a year-round destination, but there is a seasonal difference in climate. The dry season (winter) is usually between May and August, although rainfall starts declining in April and is still fairly low in September and October. This is the best season to see game, as permanent waterholes attract animals, the vegetation becomes thinned out, and trees have fewer leaves to obstruct the view. Winter has warm days and chilly nights. The average maximum temperatures is around 24 degrees in winter, and the average minimum is about 8 or 9 degrees, although it can drop as far as 5 degrees. It is important to bring along a warm jacket for early morning and evening game tours.

The wet season (summer), is from November to March. This is when the Kruger Park receives most of its rainfall, usually in dramatic afternoon thundershowers. The weather is hot and balmy, with Average maximum temperatures of about 30 degrees Celcius, with an average minimum of 20 degrees. The summer grass and foliage becomes lush and green, and while this makes for beautiful scenery, it can also make game viewing difficult. Also, animals no longer concentrate around waterholes because there are now widespread sources of water.

However, for birdwatchers, the wet season is the ideal time to visit the Kruger Park, as this is when the migrating birds arrive, and when all the local birds are at their most active. The Makuleke region of the park is renowned for its many species of birds, and visitors may see exotic specimens such as Scarlet Chested Sunbirds, Broadbilled Rollers, Redheaded Weavers, Wattle-eyed Flycatchers and owls, such as the Pels Fishing Owl, the Scops, Whitefaced, Pearl-Spotted and Giant Eagle Owls.

The wet season is also the best time to see baby animals, as most animals calve at the beginning of the rainy season to take advantage of the lush grazing grounds.

Luxury resorts in and around the Kruger Park are not cheap, but offer services such as massages, reflexology and room service for guests who like to remain within the bounds of civilization while still having an opportunity to take day tours and see game.

Overland Safaris in a tour group are the most economical way to see Kruger Park. These group tours are a great way to meet like-minded eco-tourists and enjoy a genuine outdoor experience. Both camping and hotel options are available.

The bush of the Kruger Park can also be experienced on hiking tours. These walks are conducted in parts of the region not accessible to vehicles, including the spectacular Lanner Gorge.

Similarities In Baseball And Softball

Similarities In Baseball And Softball

A comparison between softball and baseball can easily be made as softball is directly descended from baseball and therefore, it contains some important similarities. Despite this fact, however, there are also several important differences. The primary reason for these differences is that softball was originally intended to be played indoors. It would be a lot easier to talk about the differences between these two, but we are here to talk about their similarities.

Softball shares many similarities with baseball. It’s a nine-a-side game played on a grass diamond, with a batter attempting to hit pitches and get onto base. Softball was developed as a game for women, dating back to the late 19th century and first reaching national prominence during World War II as a replacement for the decimated baseball league. Because of the draft for the war at that time, the sport has been almost completely transformed.

Even though softball started as an indoor version of baseball, these two games have evolved into two completely separate sports with different sets of rules and playing conditions. Both of them involve four main activities or skills: throwing, including pitching and fielding; catching; batting; and base running. The main difference in how these games are played is the technique by which the ball is pitched to the batter.

Some of the rules in baseball and softball are similar too. For example, slap bunting rules are the same for both but used more often in softball. Substitution rules are basically the same, but differences are present here too. Fast pitch softball is played with a twelve-inch ball, and metal bats. The distance between the each base is 60 feet long each base. From the pitchers mound to home plate it measures 43 feet in length. The pitching circle is 12 feet in diameter. From all these characteristics, you can say that baseball and softball are not sports based on player strength, but of explosion and intelligence.

Another aspect we should talk about is the similarities or differences between baseball and softball bats. Take the size of the barrel. Softball bats have a maximum barrel diameter of 2 ¼”, making it a bit difficult to make solid contact with the ball. On the other hand, baseball bats have a maximum diameter of 2 ¾” and have a longer range. The similarity nowadays, for both baseball and softball bats, is that bats are made of special composites. These materials are made up of carbon, glass and fibers embedded in a polymer matrix make. Due to these materials, bats are now lighter, stiffer and stronger.

So, there you have it – similarities and differences between baseball and softball. Even though they look alike and have many similarities, remember that these are two completely different sports.

Battleship Not Just A Board Game Anymore.

Battleship Not Just A Board Game Anymore.

For the strategic in you or someone who just likes blowing things up then has the game for you, Battleship. It is an excellent recreation of the original board game with super cool graphics and the ability to choose how fierce the computer your playing against. Miniclip Battleship is approximately, with a download time of less than a minute and a minimal amount of 670 KB file size. Or if you prefer you can play the game at their website, they can even email it to you once you sign up for their newsletter. Once the game starts to load up cool battle music starts playing and you then enter your name in.

In Miniclip Battleship you get 5 boats of your own designed around actually Naval Ships. The object of this fun past time is to sink all five of your opponents ships before they sink yours. You play by calling out different grid positions on the opponents field of water, or at least this was the original board games way of playing. With the computer game you begin by moving your ships onto different parts of your board, once you have your pieces set up you are ready to begin play.

The first move is made by moving your mouse over a copy of the water the computers pieces are hidden, when you think you know where one of the ships are you click the left button on your mouse. A computer captain then shows up on the screen and then tells you whether or not your strike was hit or miss. If it’s a miss the computer tells you it’s a miss, however if you hit the opponents ship the captain appears and says “way to go” or something to that effect. If you hit the opponents ship then you are given another shot to try and hit it again. Remember though the computer gets the same amount of moves each time it hits yours. So strategize well, plan ahead, and pay close attention to the board.

Once you have finished beating the computer and have sunken all of its ships, it gives you a score based upon how bad you beat it, and offers to play again kicking it up a notch by increasing your skill level.

So put on your uniform and prepare to be the hero of the war.

Airsoft Guns: An Introduction

Airsoft Guns: An Introduction

Airsoft Guns: An Introduction

Airsoft guns are considered replicas of real firearms but not all replicas are Airsoft guns. There are some replicas that don’t have a firing mechanism while others, such as the Real Action Markers, may have a different mechanism and shoot non-Airsoft types of projectiles. This fact alone makes airsoft guns a great collector’s item. Airsoft guns are classified according to their operating principle which can be either: spring, electric, or gas-powered.
Airsoft is a combat game similar to paintball in which participants eliminate opponents by hitting them with 6 mm (or occasionally 8 mm) plastic BBs launched from airsoft guns. An airsoft player is shooting from behind cover wearing goggles that fully seal the area around the eyes and a balaclava to protect the face. The sport of Airsoft started in Japan during the early 1980s. Airsoft has been popular in Asia for a long time, and there is now a growing interest in airsoft weapons and events in North America and Europe. Airsoft started appearing in North America and Europe during the middle of the 1990’s. Airsoft is a very popular sport these days.
Airsoft game scenarios can vary widely according to mission type, number of teams, number of players per team, the objective of the game, victory conditions, and game durations. Airsoft games can be run by the players themselves using agreed upon rules. Airsoft guns are most commonly powered by one of three sources: gas, air, or mechanical boxes that use motors to pull back and release a spring piston. Airsoft guns are NOT toys and are not intended or designed for children. Airsoft guns are to be purchased and used by adults 18 years of age or older.
Airsoft guns are used all over the world for target shooting, firearms training instructors, class III-weapons enthusiasts, motion-picture studios, and most commonly, for tactical and military simulation war games. Airsoft guns are ideal for tactical training. Airsoft guns are remarkably accurate for smooth-bore guns.

Paintball Basics

Paintball Basics

Paintball is a safe, simple yet challenging and strategic sport that is played usually by two teams, each with at least two players. Adults and kids alike enjoy this sport as they often refer to it as an advanced or improvised game of tag.

Tournaments attract many spectators of all ages, as it is a very exciting game to watch.

Paintball games are of various types, however, the most popular game often played is called “capture the flag”. The object or the goal of this game is for teams to advance to the opponent’s base, move the other team’s flag to its destined location, at the same time guarding your own flag.

The paintball field has many obstacles such as tires, forts, old cars, hay and the newest are “inflatables” that are constructed as refuge for team players; making the game all the more exciting, as if participating in an actual game of war in videos.

When one is hit, it can hurt briefly and at times give players bruises. Players are typically required to be in long sleeves shirt and pants, making sure that the color is not be identical as that of the judge and complete paintball gear such as mask, helmet and goggles for safety.

The sport of paintball has a distinct and accurate set of rules that are strictly followed. The producer of the tournament is the absolute authority in regard to either an alteration or addition to the rules; marshals oversee the event, and their decision is always final. No dispute on the paintball field is accommodated or entertained.

A military approach to paintball is useless, as that knowledge is recognized and understood by the teams. A team’s tactic should be carefully planned; your team’s line of attack will not be known by the opposing team, and there should be a quick switch of plans in case something goes wrong.

There must be a lot of team work involved, as everyone moves through the field. As a team member moves, there should be others to guard and keep watch and give off covering shots when necessary. A team that moves together with a common objective will have a great chance of succeeding in this game.

Communication in the field is also very important. A team-mate can shout the position of the opponent. The moment that a player is seen, the game for that player is up; so there is no reason for you to keep quite; instead, inform the others the location of the enemy.

The excitement of this game concludes when you are seen and eliminated – a situation that all team players struggle to avoid.

Strategy Genre Of Video Gaming

Strategy Genre Of Video Gaming

Kind attention to all of the armchair generals, the genre of video gaming, strategy is quite possibly a better choice than physically joining the army. Most of strategy games are mainly on PC as they are exclusively focused on a complicated user interface, which can only be accomplished with high levels of details along with the mouse and the keyboard. These Console strategy games generally tend to be “dumbed down” as the controllers have many optional buttons and are not as exact as a mouse. There are mainly two kinds of strategy games, the turn-based strategy game and the real-time strategy game.

During early to mid 90s, a pivotal time in the gaming industry, a curious game based on the Dune sci-fi series was released. Dune II is the name of this highly wanted video. No one really remembers what the original Dune game was like, but fans around the world agreed commonly that Dune II rocked. The main focus of the game used to be all about building up a base on a limited square map. As you keep building the base, your opponent would do the same thing somewhere else on the map. You will be able to attack the computer’s base with your units built upon your expanding base. The maps got bigger and the units got nastier as the game progresses. And above all, all these happen in real-time without pauses! Then there was the origin of real-time strategy genre of video gaming and it is spear heading towards a competitive segment of the video game industry.

Some most popular modern games like the Total war series provide players control not only with respect to battlefield but also over entire continents. The images on these video games makes the modern gamer more compelled to purchase as many games as possible. Now, this adds up to another level of strategy to an increasingly complicated genre. Hence, the players not only need guile on the battlefield, but the responsibility of managing the logistics of entire empires lies with them! Another most interesting production of woodworks based on RTS games launched recently was Evil Genius. It got released in 2004, and gave the players an opportunity to mange and builds an evil egoist empire. There is a huge amount of information about the video game industry. To find out further information about games of the past and present all one has to do is log onto the internet today.

3 Birthday Party Games Everyone Will Love Playing!

3 Birthday Party Games Everyone Will Love Playing!

What’s a birthday party without games? No party at all that’s what! Games bring excitement to any party and birthday parties are no exception. Sure there are the traditional birthday party games like pin the tale on the donkey and smashing the piñata open, but times have changed and while these traditional games remain classics, there are a few more out there that are sure to go down in the history books. The next generation will definitely be calling these games ‘classic’.

Balloon Stomp – Here’s how this game works. Tie balloons to your ankles and stomp on each other’s balloons and try to pop them. A lot of movement may be required. Six or more players can play. You’ll need rubber bands and balloons. Blow up a lot of balloons and tie a rubber band to each of them. Put a balloon around each player’s ankle by stretching the rubber over their foot. If you want you can put a balloon on each ankle. Make sure players wear shoes to protect their feet. Play some music and have everyone stomp around, trying step on and pop the balloons of other players. Whoever has the last balloon left around their ankle is the winner!

This next game is not called ‘The Ultimate Water Balloon Game’ for no reason! Here’s how to play. Depending on how many guests you have, you may need to fill up one hundred or more water balloons before the party starts. This is a four part game and every game can have a different winner. The first game involves teams of two. Each team gets one balloon. They start really close to each other and the teammates have to toss them back and forth, with each successful toss they both take one step back. If your balloon pops then you are out. The last team standing wins. The second game is hot potato but you sit the kids further away from each other so they have to toss it. Everyone who gets wet is out. Each person left with the balloon is out too.

The third game is a free for all! Let them have a water war with the balloons. And for the last and final game, you give everyone a bucket as a party favor, and you tell them who ever picks up the most balloon pieces out of the yard gets the last and final prize. The kids will clean the yard so well!

Paintball Anyone?

Paintball Anyone?

People who love to play war games will surely enjoy the game of Paintball. This game which has been around for more than 20 years involves a lot of running, crawling and shooting that makes a person feel as though it is the real thing.

The only thing difference is that instead of using live ammunition to kill the opponent, paint in the form of balls exits the weapon and hits the opponent. The bullet used for each shot is a .68 caliber gelatin capsule. It comes in various colors so both teams can distinguish the shots fired from the other.

Anyone who is hit in any part of the body is automatically out of the game. There are other ways that the team can win. Both teams are given one flag and the team who captures the enemy flag wins.

In another game, a single flag is positioned in the center of the field. Whoever is able to capture it wins the match. The other way of winning would be to eliminate all the players of the opposing team.

The game can be played either on a small scale or large scale. Small scale can be the size of a basketball court with barrels and other obstructions to give cover for the player. This is usually called recreational. Each team should have five to ten players in order to play.

When there is game that could involve more than a hundred participants, this is called a scenario. The largest ever recorded scenario was in 2005 on 700 acres of land and with 3000 participants.

This growing sport has a regulating body that sanctions such events. Competitions that are held by various leagues are called tournaments. Teams can comprise from 3 to 10 players each. Rules during such events vary so people should check before joining the match.

Since safety is the primary concern of this game, players are required to wear protective gear at all times. These consist of a helmet, chest pad, gloves, and knee and elbow pads. The guns maximum firing speed is 300 feet per second.

Paintball is ranked as the third most popular extreme game in the world. It is also considered a safe sport with only a few reported minor injuries. This will continue as long as the players abide by the rules. Those who are interested can sign up at their local club and join in the fun.

Winning Paintball as a Team

Winning Paintball as a Team

Paintball is a war game and like in real war, you are never alone. You have your friends fighting beside you and with the same spirit – wanting to win as much as you do.

Paintball is a tactical game. You have to know your team’s strengths and weaknesses. As a rule, it is best to use your team’s strength to win rather than trying to cover up your weaknesses. This does not mean that you will not care about your weaknesses: if you are disadvantaged because of it, then you have other days to learn how to change it. What really matters now is how to prevent the other team from exploiting your weakness and making it a turning point in your battle.

Paintball also requires your team to have a battle plan. Who will be the designated shooter (sniper)? Who will charge and start all the action for your team? These are just two of the different positions and strategies that your team will have to determine so that your team can win.

Paintball is designed to bring out the creative side in people. You have to make sure that your battle plan allows for a contingency plan for when mistakes happen. You are never really sure how your opponent will react when you stage a certain part of your plan. The sign of a great “general” is knowing the different plans that your opponent will make to counteract every thing you do. A general should not be rattled when every plan he has made has failed. He should be able to devise new plan in the middle of the fight.

Paintball also requires your team to be flexible. Just because you are not a designated hitter does not mean that you cannot do that to your opponents. Your team should understand each others job and make sure that when one of your teammates falls, there are others who can carry on the job he was doing.

Paintball requires good communication between teammates. You should have your own signs and you should learn to bond with your teammates so that you will know what he wants by just a look of the eye or nod of the head.

Paintball is also not just about winning as a team, it is also about experiencing losing as a team and experiencing all of the hardships of playing and surviving as a team. It is in learning as a group and bonding as brothers.

Paintball: it is not a game, it is a cool war

Paintball: it is not a game, it is a cool war

Paintball is a game where there are two groups (teams) of players and each group’s aim is to eliminate the opposite team via shooting paint balls at each other.

The following are the basic rules in playing paintball.

Follow the referee:

Paintball should have only one referee for each game. This referee who will start and end the game as well as stop it (in order to check for paint) and be the decision maker should any problems or game issues arise. Fortunately or unfortunately, any verdict issued by the referee – as in any other game – is final and cannot be repealed.

You are out:

A player is no longer in the game if he or she is shot by a paintball marker that cracks or splatters on him or her. This applies when the marker or pellet breaks anywhere on the player’s clothes, equipment or gun. Take note that whether the shot came from a fellow teammate or from an enemy, the marked player is required to call out “DEADMAN” or to yell “OUT” in reference to themselves. They are required to immediately leave the field using the route that is the safest as well as shortest, all the while calling him self out.

You are in:

If a player is hit by a paintball marker and the marker does not crack or break, that player is still in the game. A player is also considered in the game if he or she is accidentally splattered by a paintball marker, especially if the splatter is caused by the paintball marker hitting a rock, a bush or tree. But this rule no longer applies if the player calls him or her self “OUT” or “DEADMAN” even if they have mistakenly thought that they were hit only discover that they were not. The rule says that they are still required to leave the field using the safest as well as shortest route.

Safety is the best policy

All players are required to wear protective clothing that covers the arms, neck and legs. “T” shirts are not allowed to be worn during the game. All players must have goggles as well and these cannot in any way, be removed during play.

Paintball is a game of strategy as well as quick thinking. But just like any other game, there are rules that need to be observed to make the game not only more challenging, fun, exciting, but most importantly fair.

5 Paintball Playing Tips on How to Win the Battle

5 Paintball Playing Tips on How to Win the Battle

Among the many sports that bring about solidarity and sportsmanship in various competitive activities, paintball ranks third among the most popular and highly stimulating games in the world.

According to the 2005 statistics of Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association International, paintball ranks third, next to inline skating and skateboarding.

This paintball hype is based on the premise that people who love “extreme sports” would most likely use activities that will stimulate adrenaline rush. Because every players aim is to win the game, they would most likely try to obtain all of the possible pointers and suggestions available just to achieve their goal.

Here is a list of some tips on how to play the game well and prevail in the battle:

1. Establish an optimistic approach

Paintball is, basically, a war game, where players can either win or loose; so there are instances where things may not always conform to the plans of the players. What must be observed is that each player must look at the results in a very optimistic way.

For instance, if a player was not able to win the game, he must accept the fact and identify the areas where he failed to perform, which contributed to his failure.

Remember that there is always another opportunity to win the game.

2. Learn by experience

Every failure is a learning experience: view it constructively as a learning experience. Work on the things that need more consideration and improvement.

3. Never play solo

In order to win the battle, it is better for a player to play on a team rather than playing solo. The concept that there are other players ready to cover up for you is a good indication that you will last throughout the game.

4. Do not hide forever

If you are trying to win the game by avoiding being seen and hit by your opponents, you will also have fewer chances of hitting the opponents. You will never learn the correct strategies needed to win the game unless you come out in the open and take action.

5. Never surrender

Just as in real battle, it is best not to surrender even if the odds of winning the game are probably higher. The point here is to stay in the game as long as you continue to be a “hard target.”

Winning a paintball game is not so much about how you stay in the game but about how you played the game.

About Five Card Stud

About Five Card Stud

At one time 5-card stud was the most popular poker game being dealt. It was started in New Orleans and moved up the Mississippi on the steamboats and moved out west with the gold rush and the end of the Civil War. The game is rather simple to play and does entail some bluffing, as the hand possibilities are easy to read. It is played with one card dealt face down and four cards dealt face up. The betting starts after the first two cards are dealt and continues after each of the other three are dealt. This game is the game that is played in the movie Cincinnati Kid.

Now days the online casinos offer it less and less. Some Live casinos will still set a table on certain days or on special days. The game is becoming harder to find and many new players to poker have never played the game. The best starting hand is a pair of Aces or any other high pair. Pairs of higher value do have a tendency to hold up in this game. Three of a kind is a monster hand and any hand bigger than that would be a super monster. Five-card draw poker replaced this game in popularity, as it allowed more betting and more gambling as each player got to see more cards to make a hand. Lack of betting possibilities is what helped to kill off 5-card stud. Seven-card stud finally replaced both in most card rooms and this game is still one of the casino favorites.

There is a romance about 5-card stud and it was favored in the movies for a long time as it is relatively easy to understand and follow the action as a hand is played out.

Five-card stud is a fine game for learning to play poker and hand values. The lack of complications makes it an easy game to quickly learn and play. The other feature of this stud game is the art of the bluff. Bluffing is part of poker and stud is a game that a good bluffer will do well at against other players at the table. If you do not have a pair at the end of the five cards it is very hard to call a large bet with just an ace high. Four cards to a flush showing is tough to call without a pair.

Review – Rainbow 6 Vegas

Review – Rainbow 6 Vegas

Let me start by saying it is not every day that a game comes along that after playing it a few times that you know in your heart this is the best game you have ever played. This was the case with me when I played Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas. It is the latest title in Ton Clancy’s long running series; however, the first I have ever played.

I didn’t have much of an idea what to expect when I first turned the game on. After a few hours of playing and gotten the hang of the cover system, It was easy to see this game was heads above any of the first person shooters I had played before this. It certainly is not a run and gun shooter like so many titles before it you were seemingly have super powers and can run into rooms full of enemies and face them head on. The way the game forces you to make tactile decisions to succeed. Trying to pull Rambo run-in tactics simply will not work in this game. It is also one of the first squad based shooter I ever played that were really forced you to use team work as opposed to your character walking through the board doing all the work while two computers players walked behind you occasionally picking off a enemy here or two.

The single player campaign mode is a real blast, well done and challenging for any gamer but Vegas really shines in online cooperative modes. You really get a feel for being on a special forces unit because it forces you to communicate with team members and have a plan to complete the missions. Based on your successes you rise in rank which is only applicable to the online play of the game. This also allows you to unlock different armor and weapons packages specifically for online play.

The graphics aren’t as polished as Gears Of War but overall I think this is a better game. I definitely give this 10 out of 10 and a must-own title for the Xbox 360.

First Teams To Classify To The World Cup Second Round

First Teams To Classify To The World Cup Second Round

At first, there were thirty two teams competing for a common goal in Germany: make their best effort and classify to the next round. Three countries have already achieved this. Germany, England and Ecuador have earned their tickets to the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2006. Costa Rica, Poland and Paraguay have been eliminated.

World Cup host country Germany, is leading Group A along with Ecuador, with 6 points each one while Costa Rica and Poland have no points.

England is having its best streak since World War II as they have won eight straight games. The final score on the game between England and Trinidad y Tobago was 2-0 with goals scored by Crouch who broke the deadlock in Nuremberg with a headed goal in the 83rd minute and his Liverpool teammate Gerrard that added a second goal in the 91st minute.

Wayne Rooney, who currently plays for the Manchester United, entered the game in the second half to replace Michael Owen as England was trying to complete a goal. This was Rooney’s first game since he broke a bone in his foot on April 29.

England is leading Group B with six points. They won the three points on each of both games played. Sweden earned three points as they won the match against Paraguay eliminating the South Americans. Trinidad y Tobago remains on one point.

Chess Pieces Are Collectable Works Of Art

Chess Pieces Are Collectable Works Of Art

Chess is one of the oldest board games known to man, and the chess pieces used are as distinctive as any game pieces you’ll ever see. Even people who have never played the game recognize a set of chess pieces immediately. Once simply functional, today’s chess men are works of art that many serious players collect for their beauty as well as their utilitarian purpose.

Choice of Chessmen Reflects Other Interests

In fact, collecting chess pieces has spilled over to collectors of many other kinds. Chess players can now combine their interest in history, science fiction or rare woods and carvings with their passion for chess. The reason? The beautifully designed and carved chess pieces that are central to the game are now offered in styles to reflect every taste and interest.

If you are a Civil War history buff, a chess set with Civil War figures can bring an extra bit of excitement as you and your opponent pit North against South once again. Other history fans will appreciate a chess match-up between Greeks and Romans or medieval troops.

Or perhaps fantasy chess pieces are more your style, with one side’s knights pitted against the other sides dragons. Wizards, peasants and fair damsels can all bring a touch of magic to the chess board. Are you an animal lover? There are even chess sets featuring cats and dogs – the perfect chess set for the chess playing veterinarian or animal lover.

An Amazing Array of Materials

Your first chess pieces were probably those red and black plastic ones that come in cheap boxed chess boards (along with checkers) that most beginners learn on. You’re well past that stage now, and you deserve something finer. The materials that are used for chess pieces are almost limitless.

The most popular is wood, but that’s a broad category encompassing such fine-grained woods as rosewood, maple and ebony. Each of these woods can be stained in various rich, lustrous finishes that make each piece from rook to king a tiny example of the woodworker’s art.

Other materials that demonstrate your exquisite taste are alabaster, brass and marble resins. These wonderful chess pieces have one-of-a-kind detailing that you will appreciate every time you use them or leave them out for display in your home. Marble resins are especially attractive because they can be hand-carved into beautifully rendered figures, and then stained in full color for amazing historical accuracy for historically themed chess sets.

With so many gorgeous chess pieces available, is it any wonder that more people every year decide to have several sets? Consider having a set for everyday play, a set for those special occasions and others simply for display. It’s an affordable, functional form of art that has a long and illustrious history as the game of kings.

Discontinued Sports in Olympics

Discontinued Sports in Olympics

Golf is one of the finest games in the world and is played in almost hundred countries of the world. It has been considered as an international game from the mid-19th century. Golf was held in the 1900 and 1904 Olympics. In the 1900 Olympics, there were separate games for men and women.

Polo is the oldest mounted sport, dating back to many centuries. It is believed to have originated in Asia especially in India, China and ancient Persia. Polo was part of the Olympic games in 1900, 1908, 1920, 1924 and 1936.

Two teams who use netted sticks to pass and catch the rubber ball in order to score play lacrosse.

Cricket is the second popular game in the world and it is supposed to have originated in the thirteenth century. Two teams consisting of eleven members who play it using a bat, ball and wicket play this game. The match is played on a flat and open grass long strip of field named as pitch. Stumps are three vertical wooden sticks placed parallel to each other, at both the ends of the pitch and two small wooden pieces are placed on top the three sticks. This structure is known as the wicket. The bowler, from the fielding team, aims a leather ball at one of the wickets. The batsman, from the opposing team, tries to hit the ball away from the wicket, with the help of a wooden bat. The other team members of the fielding team spread themselves on the field in order to catch the ball, which was hit by the batsman. If they are successful in catching the ball before it hits the ground, the batsman is out. In the meanwhile, after hitting the ball with the bat, the batsman runs from one wicket to another and the numbers of runs made are counted. The winning teams scores the maximum number of runs.

Croquet is a game of French origin. It utilizes a mallet and balls and is played in a grass arena. The mallet through hoops, which are planted in the field, hits the balls. It was part of the 1900 Summer Olympics. Roque is the American version of croquet. It was included in the 1904 United States Summer Olympics.

Initially tug-of-war was considered as a product of the track and field athletics program, but later it was given the status of a separate sport. Tug-of-war was included in the Olympic games of 1900, 1904, 1906, 1908, 1912, and 1920.

Jue de paume means game of palm and is the French version of lawn tennis. It is played without racquets, as the player hits the ball with his hands. Jue de paume was added in the 1908 Summer Olympics.

In Basque pelote, two opponents team face each other and there is a net between the two. Both the team exchange ball and if one player drops the ball, the other team scores. It is also similar to lawn tennis. It was supposed to have originated in the Greek era. In the 1900 Paris Olympic games, Basque pelote was a part of it.

Rugby is the earlier versions of football; here the ball is not carried but kicked. It originated in mid-19th century in Britain. The rugby union was considered to be beginner version where as rugby league was considered to be the professional version. In 1995, rugby union was made an open sport by the International Rugby Board. Rugby union was a part of the 1900, 1908, 1920 and 1924 Olympics games. Water skiing started in 1922. The athletes straps boards on their feet and get pulled by a powerboat around a set of course.

Why I Love Strategy Games

Why I Love Strategy Games

A strategy game is one in which the skills of the play and his decision making combine to influence the outcome. Usually, strategy games come in the form of video, board or computer games. Most games involve some strategy of some sort, however, those classified as strategy games tend exact the decision making skills of the player to determine more than half of the final scores. The word strategy echoes from the military meaning military planning and tactics to achieve results. This is in contrast to games in which players can rely to a large extent on probability to win.

Strategy games vary widely and can be found with different themes. Some of the genres include abstract strategy, war games, real time tactics or strategy games, simulation, building of cities and God games. In war games for instance, there is usually an extensive simulation of past military battles involving great leaders such as Alexander the Great, some Roman Emperors and even world wars I and . The player is usually required to take on the role of an important military person such as a general or commander or even an ordinary soldier who literally has an “impossible” mission to save the day. Traditionally, strategy games are played with physical miniatures or on a board. With the advent of the internet, however, one can find many online strategy games to play of for those who prefer, they can download strategy games.

In addition, there are also real time strategy games and real time tactics strategy games. The former apply to certain computer games, such as NukeZone, Blizzards Warcraft and Starcraft, where the player has to make quick decisions and take fast action as the games state change constantly. The latter however, concentrates more on control and operational aspects of warfare. Examples include the Close Combat and Total War series.

Simulation strategy games attempt or use real life situations as themes. Thus the player’s decisions and actions result in similar consequences as it would be in real life. Abstract strategy games, on the other hand do not necessarily use real life themes. The player must understand the logic to win the game. This includes games such as Go, Chess, Checkers. Many free online strategy games can be played on the internet as well.

God strategy games are those in which the player assumes the role of God with everything else subject to him. The challenge is to find ways and means to overcome such unbridled power. Games in this genre include Populous, Black&White and God’s Playing Field which is a free online strategy game.

Economic strategy games usually simulate real life business and require the player to win in a business or economic situation. Some examples are Monopoly, Transport Tycoon, Supreme Ruler 2010, Capitalism and Railroad Tycoon. City building strategy games also allow the player to build and manage a city. There are arguments as to whether games such SimCity and City Building Games series employ the player’s analytical skills at all. Nevertheless, they are considered as strategy games. There are also the turn based strategy games (TBS) which forces the user to think about the game first before committing to play. They are different from the real time counterparts in that sense.

As with many other things, the advent of the internet has changed the face of gaming. Most people especially kids and teens prefer to play games online, whether it is strategy or puzzle or from any other category. To meet these demands, there are a number of quality websites offering quality free online strategy games. There is no need to download anything, nor is there any need for plug-ins. Literally, playing online multiplayer strategy games is just a mouse click away.

As time rolls on, we are likely to see many more free strategy games available for game lovers to choose from. Certainly this is a good sign.

Baseball Gone Global

Baseball Gone Global

Baseball has gone a long way since its evolution from the so called “rounders” game adapted from the British and the Irish in the early years of the century.

Canadian baseball began as closely connected with its starting point in the United States. As early as 1877, a professional league featured teams from both countries.

It was in Cuba on the year 1878 that a formal baseball league was formed outside the U.S. and Canadian soil. The country is known for its rich baseball tradition and has the reputation of having one of the strongest teams since the beginning of the international play during the 1930s. Between the periods of the war, many countries formed their own professional leagues namely: The Netherlands on 1922, Australia on 1934, Japan on 1936 and Puerto Rico on 1938. Not until after the world war that the countries of Latin America joined in the roster of pro baseball leagues. Venezuela and Mexico joined the picture on 1945, and the Dominican Republic on 1951. Asian countries also came up with their pro leagues during these years: Korea on 1982, Taiwan on 1990 and China on 2003.

Europe also has its teams and which we should take into credit the Dutch, for they are hailed to be the most successful among the Europeans.

Although one could see baseball’s global popularity, The International Olympic Committee had a meeting in Singapore on July of 2005 to vote out baseball and softball off the 2012 Summer Olympic Games but will still be considered as an Olympic game in the 2008 Summer Olympics. One reason for this exclusion is because of baseball’s lack of significant global appeal. On the side of the Major league they were not really affected because it would only create a break for most players just to join the said event. It is a common notion that baseball is a seasonal game; therefore the Major League Baseball took more priority of the game’s fans.

Baseball’s global appeal is continuously growing through television and exposure of the sport itself. Marketing strategies from apparel to baseball cards made it through the hearts of the young and the old, from diverse cultures and beliefs leading to the common understanding of the words like home runs and strike outs. It will continue to expand through the undying support of the fans and the countries that see it as part of their sport.

All About Warhammer Fantasy

All About Warhammer Fantasy

You have probably heard of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k, and if you have not then chances are you have seen the excellent computer game Dawn of War.

Games Workshop are the masterminds behind these epic franchises. As the largest tabletop battle games company in the world, Games Workshop are also responsible for the more recent games based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

A Little History
Warhammer Fantasy Battle was the first game to be set in Warhammers alternate middle earth realm. Since its release in 1983 Warhammer has inspired generations of table top gamers, introducing them to painting and collecting the miniature models that represent battlefield units.

Warhammer 40k is Games Workshops futuristic version of the original game, set in the far future. Post apocalyptic societies struggle to control the galaxy, finding strange alien races and evil around every corner. This franchise was brought to wide media attention with the release of Dawn of War on the PC in 2004.

The Warhammer Fantasy Franchise
The Warhammer fantasy franchise encompasses table top games, role-playing games, card games, computer games, books, magazines and comics. Games Workshop is famous for the hard line it takes against impersonators and those who try and sell fake versions of their products, specifically the miniatures needed to play the table top games.

25 years of game development has produced an amazingly rich and detailed world. The official website lists over 200 written resources for Warhammer Fantasy. Additionally many older products are no longer in print or are unavailable.

The depth of information is staggering. Historical, religious and political histories are available for each of the 15 major armies used in the game.

Warhammer Fantasy inspires amazing artwork. Books produced as part of the worlds background feature stunning illustrations. Fans of the franchise also produce spectacular artwork of their own – often rivalling the official artists.

An Expensive Hobby
Warhammer has come a long way from those early days. Games Workshops commercial attitude to the franchise has turned many unsuspecting people into serious hobbyists who are almost addicted to the system.

Miniatures are supplied unpainted and unassembled, much like an airfix model. To collect, build and paint armies consisting of hundreds of models is not for the faint hearted! Add to this the need to create scenery and model buildings and you begin to appreciate the time, effort and money that fans invest into Warhammer.

Warhammer And The Future
The Warhammer franchise appears to be eternal. Games Workshop are clearly willing to move with the times as demonstrated by the release of several computer games in the past decade.

The impending release of a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) – Warhammer: Age of Reckoning – based in the Warhammer fantasy world is adding to the reputation of this gaming giant. Nearly 600,000 people have signed up hoping to get a sneak preview of the game, providing solid evidence that Warhammer is now firmly in the mainstream.

Paintball Markers: For Some Gun Down Actions

Paintball Markers: For Some Gun Down Actions

If you enjoy playing war games on your personal computers or play stations, then you would probably love playing paintball.

Just like the computer-generated war games, paintball is one kind of sport that is worth fighting for. It may sound like a cliché but the fact that paintball generates the same kind of adrenaline rush as fighters; it is the kind of stimulation everybody could have.

No wonder people who are so enjoy the action and adventure of exploratory activities like hunting will enjoy paintball.

The game of paintball would never be complete if it were not for the paintball markers because these markers are the primary tool used to get the game started.

Paintball markers or paintball guns are the tools used by the players to hit each other: but unlike real guns or toy guns, paintball guns make use of paint balls. These are small balls are known as “gelatin capsules” that contain paint.

The primary purpose is to shoot the paintball, which travels at a high speed, so that when ball hits the opponent, the gelatin capsule explodes and splatters the paint all over the hit mark (opponent).

Paintball markers are regulated so that the speed and the compression inside are safe enough to play with. This means that in order to avoid serious injury or problems, paintball markers should fire a paintball at an average speed of 91 meters per second.

At this rate of speed, injuries or serious damage will be avoided. Too much speed on paintball markers and paintballs can cause grave injuries to the eyes or the ears. Even with the use of safety measures it is still absolutely necessary for the players to wear helmets or any “head protection”.

When choosing paintball markers, it is important to consider the level of expertise of the player. If the player is a newbie, it is important to use a paintball marker fit for basic operations; then as the player advances in his skills he can choose markers that are appropriate for higher level of action.

It is also important to consider the kind of position the player performs in the game. For instance, front line players should use paintball markers that have a “remote air hose.” These guns are lighter so they increase the player’s pace in the game.

Yes, paintball markers can trigger a good game especially if used by good players.
